Cantilever tubular steel armchair by Marcel Breuer
Restored tubular steel cantilever armchair from the 1930s, presumable designed by Marcel Breuer as armchair B36 for Thonet in 1930. A specific attribution is unfortunately not possible. The particular construction details could also indicate a prototype.
The beautiful armchair received a new spring basket, which gives it a very firm upholstery. Both cushions were covered with new fabric in a pattern typical of the time. Black piping on all edges underlines the graphic character of the furniture. The upholstery fabric can be detached from the upholstery cushions with the help of two zippers and cleaned if necessary. The tubular steel frame and armrests have been preserved in the original, the latter having been refurbished with new shellac. The armchair is very comfortable. The chrome has slight superficial defects in two places (see detailed photos), some of which are covered by the upholstery and generally do not affect the very good overall condition. A wonderful piece of Bauhaus design!
